... a wonderful workshop. We were all inspired!

Fran Jenkins Roch Primary School, Pembrokeshire

Nicola's talents as a presenter for radio and TV and as an award winning storyteller showed in her presentation, she totally engaged pupils with her stories... this was a real end of term treat for the pupils.

Rosie Pike Librarian, Bishops Stortford College

Enthusiasm, professionalism and a high level of commitment are just three of the reasons why we have engaged Nicola to work in a wide variety of roles and settings with teachers and pupils from all phases during the last eight years.

Projects include:

  • The promotion of reading, both fiction and non-fiction
  • Non-fiction writing - a wide range of genres
  • Poetry workshops
  • Creative writing workshops for reluctant writers, resulting in printed anthologies
  • INSET for teachers
  • Family events - including whale-singing tuition!

Never failing to fascinate, enthral and entertain, Nicola is a highly gifted communicator who is able to modulate her material, tone and teaching style to fit the needs of very different individuals.

The greatest testimony comes from the reluctant writers who, after attending a week's workshop, begin to think of themselves as valued writers with something worth saying:

"I wish we could do this every day."

Eva John, Teacher's Center, Narbeth, Pembrokeshire

I've worked with Nicola on two Year 7/8 reluctant writers' writing squads and have been amazed and impressed at the standard of work the pupils achieved during the week's work. I only wish that I had been able to benefit from her inspiring methods when I was teaching, as not only does she improve the pupils' standards of writing, but their attitudes to and enjoyment of writing is enhanced as well.

We were fortunate to have an author visit from Nicola last year. She has such a lovely manner with the children - they hung on her every word and still talk about the fascinating facts that they learned from her! Her books are so bright and informative and after meeting her we can see why! We shall definitely invite her back.

I organise our school's annual Book Week in my capacity as Literacy Coordinator. Nicola has contributed to our Book Week on two occasions so far. I say "so far" because I always endeavor to get her back each year as she is so very popular with staff and students alike. Her enthusiasm for creative and informative writing combined with her love of wildlife makes her a fascinating guest whose energy and enthusiasm for her work and for life in general captures the imaginations of our students. Nicola has a natural ability to communicate to children of all ages and abilities. I would encourage all primary and secondary schools to add Nicola to their guest lists as I can guarantee they will NOT be disappointed!
